JERUSALEM, Tuesday, January 15, 2019 (WAFA) – Staff from the Israeli municipality of West Jerusalem handed on Tuesday demolition notices for a number of residential homes in the neighborhood of Silwan in occupied East Jerusalem under the pretext that they were built without a permit, according to WAFA correspondent.
He said that the residences that received the notices were in al-Bustan area of Silwan, where homeowners previously received collective demolition notices also under the pretext of illegal construction.
Israel wants to clear al-Bustan area from Palestinian homes and turn it into a Jewish park due to its proximity from the so-called City of David Israel has built in an area of Silwan close to Jerusalem’s Old City wall and Dung Gate.
While Palestinian construction in Silwan is not allowed, settlers who occupied Palestinian homes in the area were able to renovate and expand them without any problem and with Israeli government and municipal support.
