RAMALLAH, Thursday, January 10, 2019 (WAFA) – The Israeli military raids into the West Bank cities of Ramallah and al-Bireh dominated the front page headlines in the dailies on Thursday.
The dailies reported that Israeli military carried out renewed raids into several neighborhoods of Ramallah and al-Bireh cities.
Al-Ayyam added that Israeli forces detained a number of Palestinians during multiple overnight raids across the West Bank. According to al-Hayat al-Jadida, 12 Palestinians, including a child, were detained.
On the other hand, al-Quds opted to highlight the voting down by the US Senate of a legislation which includes a measure countering the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) Movement, which seeks to pressure Israel economically and politically to end its abuses against the Palestinians.
Al-Quds and al-Hayat al-Jadida said that the US Senate fails to pass a legislation that includes a measure to punish Americans who boycott Israel.
Additionally, member of Hamas political bureau Khalil al-Hayyeh was reported in al-Quds stating that Egypt has asked Hamas to “assume work” at Rafah border crossing.
The crossing has been closed for three days after the Palestinian Authority decided to pull out its employees from the crossing in protest of Hamas’ crackdown on President Mahmoud Abbas’ supporters in Gaza.
Moreover, al-Quds quoted well-informed Palestinian sources revealing that several universities in Gaza are gripped with a financial crisis.
It added that Secretary-General of the PLO Executive Committee Saeb Erekat has called upon the European Union (EU) to adopt a package of resolutions in favor of Palestine.
It highlighted an Israeli media report indicating that ulterior motives lie behind Israel’s plan to construct cable cars in East Jerusalem.
Moreover, al-Quds and al-Hayat al-Jadida said that President Mahmoud Abbas met with the Board of Directors of Khalid al-Hassan Cancer Treatment Center.
Al-Quds added that the Center’s Board of Directors has decided to set up a company to be in charge of implementing the construction project of the center in partnership with Palestine Investment Fund.
Furthermore, al-Quds published a report stressing that Israel is not entitled to receive any money following its efforts to demand $250 billion from seven Arab countries and Iran purportedly for assets left by Jews forced to flee after the creation of Israel in 1948.
Yet, al-Ayyam highlighted a mass rally against the controversial Social Security Law in Ramallah.
Spotlighting the situation at Jerusalem’s flashpoint Al-Aqsa Mosque compound, al-Ayyam said that 43 Israeli Jewish settlers forced their way into the site.
Premier Ramdi Hamdallah was reported in al-Hayat al-Jadida claiming that the development of the health sector has contributed to the reduction of referrals cost by 50 percent.
Chairman of the PLO Refugees Affiars Department Ahmad Abu Holi was reported in al-Hayat al-Jadida announcing that $1.088 million has been allocated to implement the second package of development projects for Palestinian refugees in the northern West Bank districts.
