Palestinian sentenced for five years on treason charges

RAMALLAH, Wednesday, December 26, 2018 (WAFA) – The Ramallah Appeals Court Wednesday sentenced a Palestinian man to five years in prison after convicting him on treason charges.

The three-judge Palestinian court found, who was referred to only by his initials A.M. from the northern West Bank city of Salfit, guilty of “spying for the occupier (treason)” in violation of article 118 of the penal code number 16 for 1960.

He was sentenced to five years with temporary hard labor.

A.M. was previously found not guilty by a First Degree Court. The prosecution, however, appealed the First Degree Court’s ruling to the Appeals Court, which said that based on the evidence and submission presented by the prosecutor, it ruled to convict A.M. of treason.
