RAMALLAH, Monday, December 24, 2018 (WAFA) – Member of Fatah Central Committee Abbas Zaki Monday hailed the recent Constitutional Court’s decision dissolving the Palestinian Legislative Parliament as “a step in the right direction”.
Speaking during an interview with Voice of Palestine, Zaki stated that the recent Constitutional court’s decision dissolving the Palestinian Legislative Council (PLC) was “a step in the right direction” given the 12-year Fatah-Hamas division and largely defunct PLC’s failure to take action to end the division.
He stressed that the Palestinian leadership is now interested in freeing itself from the shackles of the Oslo Accords, signed between the PLO and Israel in 1993, citing a 2015 Fatah’s decision on reconsidering the accords.
Meanwhile, member of PLO Executive Committee Ahmad Majdalani said the court’s decision dissolving PLC has become “a part of the judicial system” and is definite and irrevocable.
He noted that it is incumbent upon President Mahmoud to take practical measures to implement the court’s ruling following its issuance in the official gazette.
