RAMALLAH, Sunday, December 23, 2018 (WAFA) – News about the Palestinian Constitutional Court’s ruling to dissolve the Palestine Legislative Council, which was announced by President Mahmoud Abbas on Saturday, hit the front page headines of the three Arabic Palestinian dailies on Sunday.
Al-Hayat al-Jadida, al-Quds and al-Ayyam said that President Mahmoud Abbas said on the opening remarks of the leadership meeting in Ramallah that a decree has been issued by the Palestinian Constitutional Court dissolving the Palestine Legislative Council, adding that that the leadership is committed to the Court’s decree, which also calls for holding legislative elections in six months.
The three dailies also reported President Abbas’ statement on the occasion of Christmas, in which he said, “let us work together to revive the message of hope that emerged from a humble Grotto in Bethlehem to work for peace and justice so that wisdom prevails in order to finally bring peace to the land of peace.”
The President added that Israel’s policy is consistent to weaken the Christian presence in the Holy Land.
The papers said that Ayman Munir Shbeir, 18, from Deir al-Balah, the Gaza Strip died on Saturday of wounds sustain from Israeli army gunfire the day before during protests at the Gaza border with Israel.
They said that he was seriously injured in the abdomen and remained in critical condition until he was pronounced dead this morning.
Al-Hayat al-Jadida and al-Ayyam said that the West Jerusalem Israeli municipality ordered a Palestinian family living in Wadi Hilweh area of Silwan, in occupied East Jerusalem, to vacate its house following the collapse of a section of a wall around the house.
The dailies said that the United Nations General Assembly adopted a resolution that affirms the right of the Palestinians to sovereignty over their natural resources.
