Newspapers Review: Israeli settlers’ attacks against Palestinians focus of dailies

RAMALLAH, Monday, December 17, 2018 (WAFA) – Israeli settlers’ rampaging in the West Bank and attacks against Palestinian civilians were highlighted on the front page of the three Palestinian Arabic dailies on Monday.

The papers said many people were injured by either Israeli army bullets or attacks by settlers on homes and cars.

Al-Quds said an Israeli ministerial committee is pushing for a law to give legal status according to Israeli law for settlement outposts in the occupied territories.

It said Egypt is acting to put a stop to Israeli escalation in the occupied territories.

It quoted Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh saying at an event in Gaza marking the launch of his movement that the West Bank is the more important place to determine the future of the conflict with Israel.

Al-Ayyam used his same quote on the West Bank as being the territory to determine the course of the conflict with Israel and added that Hamas was ready for holding general elections in Palestine after three months.

It quoted Fatah official Azzam Ahmad saying the movement’s Central Committee is going to meet today to evaluate the recent developments.

The Arab League is also going to meet on Tuesday to discuss the Israeli escalation.

Al-Hayat al-Jadida said in a main headline that Israeli settlers are inciting for the murder of President Mahmoud Abbas and said in another story that Egypt stressed its support for Abbas.

It quoted Fatah’s deputy chairman Mahmoud Aloul saying that they will not allow the settlers to rampage in the West Bank and attack people on the roads.

The paper said the Israeli military authorities have decided to demolish the home of the Jabarin family in Yatta, south of the West Bank. Khalil Jabarin, 17, attacked Israeli settlers south of Bethlehem in September killing one. He was detained.
