Ashrawi discusses ways to advance relations between Palestinian and Dutch parliamentarians

 

RAMALLAH, Sunday, December 16, 2018 (WAFA) - PLO Executive Committee Member Hanan Ashrawi met with Dutch MP Martijn van Helvert of the Christian Democratic Party in Ramallah, where they discussed the current situation in Palestine, Dutch-Palestinian relations, and ways to advance cooperation and relations between Dutch and Palestinian parliamentarians.

"Having open and frank discussions with fellow parliamentarians is very important to promote and strengthen issues of mutual interests, including the pursuit of peace and justice," Ashrawi said.

 "The Netherlands is a country whose laws are firmly rooted in the principles of international law, including the universality of human rights. This is an important commonality between us and we look forward to strengthening our bilateral relations in all sectors," added Ashrawi in a statement issued by her office.

They also discussed ways to promote proactive inter-sectoral exchanges and cooperation between Palestine and the Netherlands.

Ashrawi briefed the visiting parliamentarian on the current situation, including the recent deterioration on the ground due to Israel‘s illegal actions against Palestinian lives and rights.

The two officials also discussed the international context of the Palestinian question and the importance of preserving and respecting the principles and standing of international law in reaching peace and justice.
