Newspapers Review: With Israeli escalation in the West Bank, papers say Palestinian killed

RAMALLAH, Saturday, December 15, 2018 (WAFA) – Israeli escalation in the West Bank continued on Friday with Israeli soldiers shooting and killing an 18-year-old Palestinian in Jalazoun refugee camp in Ramallah, the three Palestinian Arabic dailies reported in their Saturday issue.

The headlines in the three papers that went across the top of the front page touched on this escalation and said that in addition to the killing in Jalazoun, dozens were also injured in other places in the West Bank and on the Gaza border with Israel, where hundreds of Palestinians took part in the weekly Friday March of Return protests.

Al-Hayat al-Jadida said the Jalazoun boy killed by the army, Mahmoud Nakhleh, is an only son for his family.

It highlighted a statement by President Abbas in which he said the leadership wants to see all the prisoners freed.

It also said calls were made for action against Australia if it recognizes Jerusalem as capital of Israel.

Al-Hayat al-Jadida quoted Hebron governor, Jibrin Bakri, saying what happened in Hebron was due to women from Hamas attacking the security forces. He was referring to Palestinian security dispersing a Hamas march in the southern West Bank city that resulted in a scuffle.

In other front page news, Al-Ayyam said that a European court rejected an appeal by Hamas against declaring it as a “terrorist” organization.

It said an Israeli lawmaker called for assassinating President Mahmoud Abbas and his Fatah deputy Mahmoud Aloul.

Also it said an Israeli ministerial committee is going to discuss on Sunday “legalizing” 66 settlement outposts.

Al-Quds said the US Congress is trying to pass a law on fighting boycott of Israel.

It said the American so-called deal of the century may be delayed few months.
