Palestinians suffocate during clashes with Israeli army in Hebron-area town

HEBRON, Monday, December 03, 2018 (WAFA) – Several Palestinians Monday suffocated by tear gas fired at them by Israeli forces during clashes that broke out in the town of Beit Ummar, to the north of the southern West Bank district of Hebron, said a local activist.

Media activist in Beit Ummar, Mohammad Awad, told WAFA Israeli forces, accompanied by border guards, stormed two areas in the town of Beit Ummar, closed the main street, and forced residents to close their shops, leading  to clashes with the town residents.

Forces used rubber-coated steel bullets, tear gas canisters, and stun grenades against residents, causing several suffocation cases among them.

Forces also distributed leaflets threatening to take harsh measures and punishment against the town should stones be thrown at settlers and soldiers’ vehicles driving nearby the town.

Israel normally adopts collective punishment against Palestinians for the action of only one member.
