Gaza fisherman, their boats detained

GAZA, August 16, 2018 (WAFA) – Israeli navy forces detained on Thursday four Palestinian fishermen off the Gaza City coast and seized their boats, according to witnesses.

A fisherman told WAFA that the navy boats opened fire at the fisherman who were sailing in two boats in the Sudaniyeh area in northern Gaza and detained them after seizing their boats and steering them to the Israeli port of Asdod.

Israel restricts the fishing area for northern Gaza to six nautical miles, which fisherman say is not enough to catch fish, while the area extends to nine nautical miles in the southern shores of Gaza.

The 1993 Oslo agreement allows fishing up to 12 nautical miles.
