RAMALLAH, August 14, 2018 (WAFA) – The death of a Palestinian protester who was shot and injured by Israeli forces on May 14 border protests dominated the front page headlines in Palestinian daily newspapers on Tuesday.
They said that Wissam Yousef Hijazi, 30, from Bani Sheila town, east of Khan Younes, died of his wounds he had sustained during the Great March of Return protests.
Israel’s plan to punitively demolish the family home of a Palestinian in a Ramallah-district village also hit the front page headlines.
The dailies reported that Israeli occupation authorities have handed the family of Mohammad Tareq Dar Yousef an order informing them of their intention to demolish their home in Kobar village, northwest of Ramallah.
Mohammad, 17, carried out a stabbing attack in the illegal Israeli settlement of Adam in Ramallah district on July 26, killing a settler and injuring two others before being gunned down.
On the other hand, al-Quds reported that Washington has decided to reduce and suspend $200 million in financial and humanitarian assistance to the Palestinians to force them to accept US President Donald Trump’s Mideast plan, dubbed deal of the century.
It added that US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and Trump’s son-in-law and advisor Jared Kushner would ask the Congress to suspend most of the aid.
Furthermore, al-Quds reported that the Palestinian Central Council would convene on Wednesday and discuss the mechanism for transforming the Palestinian Authority into a state status.
It said that Israeli forces detained a Palestinian from Nablus city under the pretense of wielding a knife.
Moreover, al-Ayyam and al-Hayat al-Jadida Israeli Jewish settlers forced their way into Al-Aqsa Mosque compound and made a provocative march in Jerusalem’s Old City.
They were reportedly singing and dancing in the streets and called for the killing of Arabs and demolition of Islam’s third holiest site.
Regarding efforts to achieve intra-Palestinian reconciliation, al-Quds and al-Ayyam said that Palestinian factions are set to arrive in Cairo today to discuss ceasefire with Israel and reconciliation.
Al-Quds added that the Israeli Legal Center for Freedom of Movement (Gisha) petitioned the Israeli High Court to rescind the severe restrictions on the entrance of goods and the sweeping prohibition on the exit of goods via Karm Abu Salem (Kerem Shalom) crossing to Gaza.
Moreover, al-Ayyam reported Deputy Spokesman for the UN Secretary-General Farhan Haq stating that the UN relief agency (UNRWA) would continue to operate despite the cutting of US funding.
According to al-Hayat al-Jadida, President Mahmoud Abbas received a delegation of political activists at the presidential headquarters in Ramallah for the purpose of starting an Arab-Jewish political movement.
The World Health Organization was reported slamming the targeting of Palestinian paramedics by Israeli forces as extremely dangerous.
Al-Hayat al-Jadida reported that the Joint List bloc in the Israeli parliament intends to meet the High Representative of the European Union (EU) for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Federica Mogherini to discuss implications of the racist Jewish Nation-State Law.
