RAMALLAH, August 13, 2018 (WAFA) – The situation in the besieged Gaza Strip dominated the front page headlines in Palestinian dailies on Monday.
Al-Quds reported that the Israeli punitive measures on Gaza threaten to cause a complete collapse in all aspects of life.
It also reported senior Hamas leader Ahmad Yousef warning that Gaza would face a violent Israeli onslaught should the ceasefire fail.
On its turn, al-Ayyam opted to report Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu demanding “total ceasefire” in Gaza.
Al-Quds and al-Ayyam said that Israel has mulled assassinating Hamas leaders over past several months.
They added that two Palestinians were injured from Israeli gunfire as they participated in a Great March of Return protest, east of Jabaliya refugee camp.
They reported Islamic Jihad leader Khaled al-Batsh stating that Palestinian factions have not received any serious ceasefire offer, and thus, the Great March of Return protests would continue until their goals are achieved.
Additionally, al-Quds reported the Palestinian government calling for international intervention to compel Israel to lift the siege it has imposed on the Gaza Strip for almost a decade.
Moreover, al-Quds and al-Hayat al-Jadida said scores of Israeli Jewish settlers forced their way into East Jerusalem’s flashpoint Al-Aqsa Mosque compound.
The dailies highlighted Israeli occupation authorities’ plan to set up scores of cellular aerials in the occupied West Bank.
Al-Hayat al-Jadida added in this regard the Palestinian Communication and Information Technology Ministry pledging to file a complaint with the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) against Israel over the cellular aerials.
Moreover, the dailies said that President Mahmoud Abbas received the Kuwaiti Education Ministry’s delegation visiting Palestine to hire Palestinians to teach in Kuwait.
They added that the Health Ministry has ordered cancer medications to be dispatched to Gaza following Abbas’ instructions after health officials in Gaza reported major shortages of chemotherapy medications.
According to al-Quds, the World Bank provided a $17 million grant for Gaza youth to create employment opportunities.
The dailies spotlighted the death of a Palestinian who was arrested several months ago by Palestinian security forces in the Nablus-district refugee camp of Balata.
Ahmad Abu Hamadeh, nicknamed ‘Al-Za‘bour’, 26, died at Istishari Hospital in Ramallah 10 days after being transferred from a Jericho prison.
A Palestinian security source was reported in al-Ayyam stating that Abu Hamadeh had suffered a serious heart attack, resulting in his death.
Furthermore, al-Ayyam said that Israel is concerned over a Palestinian initiative aimed at suspending its membership in the UN.
Al-Ayyam and al-Hayat al-Jadida shed light on a confidential report prepared by Israeli military police investigators confirming that four Palestinian children playing on a beach in Gaza in 2014 were killed by missiles fired by an Israeli drone.
According to al-Hayat al-Jadida, Israeli forces detained nine Palestinians in multiple overnight raids across the West Bank.
It added that Israeli naval forces detained five Palestinian fishermen in the northern besieged Gaza Strip.
Regionally, they reported Jordan’s King Abdullah II vowing to eliminate terrorism after gunmen killed three members of Jordanian security forces during a raid on a terrorist cell a day after an officer died in a bomb blast in al-Salt town.
