Israeli navy detain five fishermen off Gaza shores

GAZA, August 12, 2018 (WAFA) – Israeli navy on Sunday detained five Palestinian fishermen of the same family as they were sailing offshore al-Sudaniya area in the Gaza Strip, according to WAFA correspondent.

Israeli naval forces opened gunfire towards the fishermen, before they detained Hasan Baker, a fisherman, and his brother and three sons. The navy seized their boats and took them to the Ashdod port in southern Israel.

To be noted, Israeli navy targets Palestinian fishermen and their fishing boats almost on daily basis.

Palestinian fishermen are targeted by Israel on daily basis despite sailing within the allowed six-nautical-mile fishing zone and the agreement reached between Israel and the Palestinian in August 2014.

According to the Palestinian Center for Human Rights in Gaza, Israeli attacks against fishermen in Gaza coincided with the restrictions imposed to increase restrictions and prevent them from sailing and fishing.
