RAMALLAH, August 5, 2018 (WAFA) – Five Palestinian detainees in Israeli prisons are still on an open-ended hunger strike in protest of their detention without charge or trial, according to a statement by the Palestinian Prisoner’s Society (PPS.)

The statement said the five prisoners, including a journalist, are striking in protest against the administrative detention policy, in addition to the conditions of their arrest and interrogation.

Administrative detention is the imprisonment of Palestinians by Israeli authorities without charge or trial at orders from a military commander and on the basis of secret evidence. The order normally goes for six-month periods, indefinitely renewable by Israeli military authorities.

According to a statistic by Prisoners Support and Human Rights Association, the total number of Palestinian political prisoners is 5900, with 442 of them being administrative detainees, 330 minors and 59 females, as of June 2018.
