RAMALLAH, May 13, 2018 (WAFA) – The government spokesman Yousef al-Mahmoud called on all countries that respect freedom, peace and stability to recognize East Jerusalem as the capital of the State of Palestine in the face of the blatant disregard for international law.

In a statement, he called on world countries to recognize East Jerusalem as the capital of the State of Palestine in light of the blatant disregard for international resolutions; represented by the continuation of the [Israeli] occupation and US President Donald Trump’s declaration of Jerusalem as capital of Israel.

Al-Mahmoud slammed this US move as “the most bizarre act undertaken by world leaders throughout history.”

He further called for wide international rejection and condemnation against the relocation of the US embassy to occupied Jerusalem which also coincided with the ‘tragic’ anniversary of Nakba (catastrophe).

Al-Mahmoud slammed Trump’s decision to relocate the US embassy and ongoing preparations for the opening ceremony of the embassy as a flagrant aggression on the Palestinian people and their holy sites.

He urged the international community to counter the US decision, stressing that the international community must address this disobedience and hostility carried out against the principles of international law by the US president.
