RAMALLAH, March 6, 2018 (WAFA) – The establishment of a new Israeli settlement outpost to the east of the southern West Bank city of Hebron hit the front page headlines in the Palestinian dailies on Tuesday.
The dailies reported that Israeli Jewish settlers, backed by the military, established a new settlement outpost to the east of Hebron city.
They printed photos for new caravans being installed on Palestinian-owned land which reportedly overlooks several Hebron-city neighborhoods.
They added that settlers physically assaulted four Palestinian children to the south of Hebron.
According to al-Quds and al-Ayyam, Israeli forces ordered 16 Palestinian families in Khirbit Ibziq in the northern Jordan Valley to leave their homes due to military drills in the area.
Al-Ayyam also highlighted ongoing Israeli archeological excavations under the East Jerusalem’s Silwan neighborhood in its main news item.
According to al-Quds, Elad, a private Jewish settler group, was overseeing the excavation of five tunnels to the south of Al-Aqsa Mosque compound.
It also reported Director of Wadi Hilweh Information Center Jawad Siam stating that over 90 Palestinian homes in Silwan were in danger of collapsing.
On the other hand, al-Quds opted to highlight Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s meeting with US President Donald Trump in Washington in its main front page news item.
It reported Trump stating that if the Palestinians did not return to the negotiating table, there would be no peace.
He was also reported stating that he was “working hard” on reaching peace between Palestinians and Israel and expressing his belief that “we have a very good chance”.
Al-Ayyam and al-Hayat al-Jadida added in this regard that Trump boasted about his close relation to Netanyahu and raised the possibility of attending the opening of the US embassy in Jerusalem in May.
Al-Ayyam said Israeli bulldozers leveled a Palestinian cemetery in the northern Jordan Valley.
Al-Quds reported Thaer Hammad, placed in Israeli imprisonment, urging the Palestinian people to confront challenges and Trump’s policy through national unity and struggle.
Furthermore, the dailies said that the Israeli parliament, the Knesset, approved the first reading of a bill that would see Israel deduct the allowances of the families of Palestinian prisoners in Israel and those who were killed or injured by Israeli forces.
The bill would reportedly see Israel deduct an estimated NIS 1 billion ($280 million) annually from the tax revenues it collects on behalf of the Palestinian Authority (PA).
According to al-Quds and al-Ayyam, the Knesset has also approved a bill that would see the revocation of permanent residency status from Jerusalemite Palestinians purportedly involved in attacks against Israelis and their families.
According to al-Ayyam, the Palestinian National Council would hold convene during the first week of May.
Al-Hayat al-Jadida said the Palestinian cabinet has approved Royal Dutch Shell’s pull out from the Gaza Marine gas field.
Al-Quds and al-Hayat al-Jadida said the Arab League called on Guatemala to reverse its decision to relocate the Guatemalan embassy to Israel from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem next May.
