RAMALLAH, February 22, 2018 (WAFA) - The United States‘ request from the United Nations Security Council to support its Middle East peace plan is doomed to fail because it promotes a deal biased to one party at the expense of another, according to Nabil Shaath, adviser to President Mahmoud Abbas on international affairs.
Shaath told the official Voice of Palestine radio on Thursday that the Security Council is not going to buy a plan that is still in the closet and which was not disclosed except by leaks.
He wondered why would the Security Council go for an obscure plan, which was previously revealed in various forms, especially after US President Donald Trump “donated” Jerusalem to Israel and removed it from the negotiating table?
He noted that the leadership has a peace plan presented to the Security Council, which has high support from all over the world.
Shaath said that the world sees the proposal by President Abbas is in accordance with international law and the UN Charter, as well as going along with all that has been agreed on regarding the two-state solution.
"We are waiting for more world countries to be persuaded by the Palestinian peace initiative,” he said. “We have to be patient and continue to promote it because it is the only idea that can lead to a real peace process,” he said.
