RAMALLAH, January 27, 2018 (WAFA) – The three Palestinian Arabic dailies highlighted on their front page on Saturday Israeli vandalism of Palestinian property in occupied East Jerusalem, army crackdown on protests as well as attempts by the US administration to push what it calls the ultimate deal for a Palestinian-Israeli settlement.
The dailies said Israeli vandals from the Price Tag terror group set a car on fire and sprayed anti-Arab racist graffiti, such as Death to Arabs and Revenge, on Palestinian cars in Beit Safafa, an East Jerusalem neighborhood.
They also said several people were hurt in Gaza and Jericho during clashes with Israeli soldiers in the eighth week of continued protests against US recognition of Jerusalem as Israel’s capital.
Al-Quds said US President Donald Trump is determined to push forward his so-called “deal of the century” as a fait accompli in spite of Palestinian objections due to his biased position toward Israel and Jordan’s King Abdullah has warned Lebanese Prime Minister Saad Hariri that the plan calls for absorbing the Palestinian refugees in their host countries.
It also said that the next anti-Palestinian step by the US is to shut down the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) representative office in Washington.
Al-Hayat al-Jadida said that Saudi Arabia has re-affirmed that Jerusalem will remain the eternal capital of Palestine in spite of the US position.
It also said that Britain said it will continue to support the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) after the US decision to slash its annual aid to the humanitarian organization.
Al-Ayyam quoted PLO secretary general Saeb Erekat saying that French President Emmanuel Macron did not present an alternative peace plan to the US, while al-Quds reported about the likelihood of a French peace initiative.
The papers said Denmark has decided to exclude the illegal Israeli settlements from any bilateral agreement with Israel.
Al-Ayyam said the Slovenian president went back on an earlier decision to recognize Palestine.
It said Hamas insists that internal reconciliation is proceeding and that it will not stop until it is enforced.
In other news, the papers said Ghassan Shakaa, member of the PLO’s Executive Committee and former mayor of Nablus, was buried in his hometown in an official funeral attended by hundreds of people.
The front page of al-Quds daily was filled almost to the top by condolences of Shakaa.
The papers also marked the 10th anniversary for the death of George Habash, founder of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine, a main PLO faction.
