Building 14,000 housing units for Israeli settlers in Jerusalem is an escelation

RAMALLAH, December 8, 2017 (WAFA) - The unity government Friday said the Israeli occupation’s plans to build 14,000 housing units for Israeli settlers in Jerusalem, with 6,000 of these in East Jerusalem, is considered an escalation that will lead to more tension in the region.

Yousef al-Mahmoud, the government spokesperson warned against escalating the situation, saying in the past hours more than a hundred Palestinians were injured in protests that marched in condemnation of US President Donald Trump’s announcement.

He said the Palestinian leadership will continue to champion for peace and justice that will not be achieved unless a Palestinian state is established with Jerusalem as its capital.

According to Israeli media sources, Housing and Construction Minister Yoav Galant, has proposed a plan to build 5,000 units for the illegal Atarot, north of Jerusalem near Ramallah, and another 1,000 units for the East Jerusalem illegal neighborhood of Pisgat Zeev.

The announcement came after Trump recognized Jerusalem and the capital of Israel and said he plans on moving the US embassy to Jerusalem, violating International law and drawing criticism from world leaders and US allies.
