JERUSALEM, December 7, 2017 (WAFA) - The European Union‘s representative to Palestine Ralf Tarraf Thursday said the European Union and its member states will continue to respect the international consensus and the Security Council resolution 478 and will not transfer any embassy to Jerusalem unless a final solution is reached.
He told WAFA, “We express our deep concern over the announcement made by US President Donald Trump to recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel, and its possible impact on hopes for peace.”
Tarraf said the aspirations of the Palestinian and Israeli sides must be achieved through reaching a common formula through negotiations, including Jerusalem.
"Any action that undermines efforts to bring peace must be avoided, and at this time we call for an end to escalation and restraint. The position of the European Union from Jerusalem has not changed, reiterating that the EU continues not to recognize the annexation of Jerusalem.”
He added, "We believe in the need to find a way and a formula through negotiations that ensures that Jerusalem is the capital of the two states. The situation must be maintained as it was before 1967, especially in relation to al-Haram al-Sharif (Noble Sanctuary), based on previous understandings and the role of Jordan.”
