RAMALLAH, December 6, 2017 (WAFA) - PLO Executive Committee Member Hanan Ashrawi discussed with French Consul General Pierre Cochard at the PLO Headquarters in Ramallah on Wednesday US President Donald Trump’s unprecedented decision to recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel.
The discussion also focused “on the detrimental outcomes of such an irresponsible and dangerous move and how it will destroy the chances of peace, stability and security indefinitely, unleashing a religious war and sectarian strife in the region and beyond,” according to a statement by Ashrawi’s office.
In that context, both parties reviewed French President Emmanuel Macron’s recent conversation with Trump, as well as the continued warnings by Germany, the European Union and Arab and Muslim majority countries regarding the ramifications of President Trump’s imminent announcement.
The sides also discussed Israel’s systematic violations of international law in and around Jerusalem and its flagrant measures of annexation and ethnic cleansing at the expense of the indigenous Palestinian population.
Ashrawi also affirmed the pressing need for international intervention to prevent such a decision from being adopted and implemented and to recognize immediately the state of Palestine with Jerusalem as its capital.
