PRETORIA, November 28, 2017 (WAFA) - South African leader Jacob Zuma pledged on Monday to continue with efforts to combat the Zionist project in Africa, according to Nabil Shaath, advisor to President Mahmoud Abbas for foreign affairs.
Shaath met with Zuma at his home in Pretoria and presented him with a letter from President Abbas on Palestinian-South African relations and the latest developments in Palestine.
“President Zuma reiterated during the meeting that South Africa will continue to work on the African and international spheres to combat the Zionist colonial project,” Shaath told WAFA.
In the letter, President Abbas praised his counterpart Jacob Zuma for his support of the Palestinian cause on all levels, particularly his support in international forums.
He stressed the strong historic relationship between the two peoples and their governments.
Abbas briefed his counterpart on the situation in the Palestinian territories, the struggle of the Palestinian people for their freedom and independence and the establishment of an independent Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital on the 1967 borders.
He also spoke about Israeli violations in Jerusalem, its policies that violate international laws and its apartheid regime as Israel, the occupying Power, continues to build settlements on Palestinian land and avoid meeting its peace obligations while failing to abide by international resolutions.
He thanked Zuma for the historic position of South Africa in support of the rights of the Palestinian people in international forums.
