Calls made for solidarity as Jabal al-Baba community face displacement

RAMALLAH, November 22, 2017 (WAFA) – Calls are made on Wednesday for solidarity with Jabal al-Baba community east of Jerusalem as the Israeli military prepares to uproot them from their homes.

Activists have called for a non-violent rally on Thursday at the community as last minute legal efforts are being launched to stop the Israeli-planned demolition of the homes and the eventual displacement of the community, which is expected to take place on Thursday, according to a press release by the rights group, Avaaz,

Jabal al-Baba is a Bedouin community located in what has been classified as E1 area where Israel plans to build a large settlement that will divide the West Bank in half and cut East Jerusalem from the rest of the West Bank.

The E1 plan is strongly opposed by world governments, including the United States and the European Union.

If carried out, the demolition of Jabal al-Baba would be the largest since Israel’s occupation of the West Bank in 1967.
