RAMALLAH, November 18, 2017 (WAFA) – The weekly anti-occupation Palestinian protests and the Israeli army crackdown that normally leaves many people injured were the focus of the three Palestinian Arabic dailies on Saturday.
In addition to the protests and crackdown, the papers reported on Israeli settlers attacking Palestinians in West Bank villages such as Burin in the north and in Hebron in the south.
Al-Hayat al-Jadida said a child was badly hurt from Israeli army bullet in the Kufr Qaddoum protests in the Qalqilya area, north of the West Bank.
Al-Ayyam said one person was seriously injured after he was shot south of Bethlehem following an alleged attacked against Israeli settlers.
The main front page story in al-Hayat al-Jadida focused on President Mahmoud Abbas and his meetings in Ramallah with visitors from abroad.
Al-Quds highlighted on its front page the meeting in Gaza between Maj. Gen. Majed Faraj, head of intelligence, and Hamas leader Yehya Sinwar and other officials to discuss the security issue.
It said Faraj left Gaza at night after visiting it for few hours during which he discussed security at Rafah crossing with Egypt.
The paper highlighted the plight of the Bedouin community around Jerusalem following Israel’s decision to uproot most of them, particularly in Jabal al-Baba area east of Jerusalem in order to facilitate building a huge settlement on their lands.
It quoted Palestinian officials strongly criticizing this act and calling for taking the settlement issue to the International Criminal Court in The Hague.
Al-Ayyam said uprooting Jabal al-Baba community gives Israel an opportunity to build a settlement that would connect the illegal settlement of Ma’ale Adumim to Jerusalem.
The paper also said in another story that six issues will be discussed when the Palestinian factions meet in Cairo on Tuesday to discuss the remaining issues on reconciliation, such as security, elections and others.
Al-Hayat al-Jadida quoted member of Fatah Central Committee Mohammad Shtayyeh saying French President Emmanuel Macron’s congratulations on the Palestinian declaration of independence is significant and indicates French intentions to recognize the Palestinian state.
It also quoted in another subject the acting head of the energy authority Thafer Melhem saying the shortage of electric current in the West Bank is going to be resolved this winter.
