Newspapers review: President’s snap visit to Saudi Arabia focus of dailies

RAMALLAH, November 8, 2017 (WAFA) – President Mahmoud Abbas’ snap visit to Saudi Arabia dominated the front page headlines in Palestinian dailies on Wednesday.

Al-Hayat al-Jadida reported Abbas met with and thanked Saudi King Salman for Saudi Arabia’s support to the Palestinian people.

The Saudi monarch was reported in al-Quds affirming his country’s longstanding support for the Palestinian question in all international arenas.

Al-Ayyam reported in this regard Abbas and Salman see eye to eye on efforts to revive the stagnated peace process with Israel, the intra-Palestinian reconciliation, and counter-terrorism.

Abbas was also reported in al-Hayat al-Jadida affirming his strong rejection of all “heinous acts” and sending his condolences to his US counterpart Donald Trump  over the victims killed in the church attach in Texas.

The dailies also reported Israeli forces demolished two Palestinian residential buildings in al-Jiftlik village in the Jordan Valley.

They also reported Israeli Jewish settlers stole a 400-meter water pipeline that used to wupply water to Palestinians in the same village.

They added Israeli bulldozers also demolished two Palestinian structures; a residential structure and an agricultural pond, in Furush Beit Dajan village, east of Nablus.

Al-Quds reported Israeli forces injured several Palestinians with rubber-coated steel bullets and caused several others to suffocate during a raid into the Hebron-district village of Beit Ummar.

Al-Quds and al-Ayyam reported Israeli police have secretly installed new surveillance cameras at the gates leading to East Jerusalem’s Al-Aqsa Mosque compound.

Furthermore, al-Quds reported Hamas security chief Tawfiq Abu Naim stating neither the outcomes of the investigation into the attempt to “assassinate” him nor the names of those involved in the attempt will not be announced before the investigation is completed.  

The Palestinian cabinet was reported in al-Ayyam and al-Hayat al-Jadida stating Gaza border crossings would not operate without actual control for the security forces over them.

It was also reported in al-Quds reiterating the importance of being enabled to extend full control over Gaza crossings.

Member of the Democratic Front for the Liberation of Palestine’s (DFLP) political bureau Ramzi Rabah was reported in al-Quds announcing security would be one of the five major issues to be discussed in depth by the Palestinian factions in their upcoming meeting in Cairo.

Al-Quds reported head of Silwad village council Abdul-Rahman Saleh announcing that the Israeli Supreme court has accepted an appeal filed by the villagers against the relocation of Amona settlers to their land.

Palestinian villagers of Silwad have filed an appeal to the court, claiming ownership of the land, known as parcel 38, allocated by the Israeli government to the settlers.

Member of Fatah Central Committee Nasser al-Qudwa was reported in al-Quds affirming there would be no Israeli normalization with Arab states before resolving the Palestinian-Israeli conflict ]an ending the occupation[.

He was also reported stating the fact that Israel was proceeding with its policies would undermine the status quo.

The dailies covered former US Secretary of State John Kerry’s statements blaming the Israeli government for lack of a peace agreement with the Palestinian people.

Kerry was reported in al-Quds and al-Ayyam stating that Israel did not have leaders who want to make peace.
