JERUSALEM, November 6, 2017 (WAFA) – Israeli police Monday raided Zahwet al-Quds school in the East Jerusalem neighborhood of Beit Hanina and detained its principal and three teachers before ordering the school shut down, said an official.
Ziyad Al-Shamal, chairman of the Parents Committee, said Israeli police raided the school, broke into classrooms while students were in class and detained three teachers and the school principal, spreading fear and panic among students.
Shortly after the raid, the Israeli municipality ordered the school shut down and called on parents of the students to transfer them to other schools in the city.
The school had an operating permit from the Muslim Awqaf Department in Jerusalem. However, the Israeli municipality of West Jerusalem annulled the permit.
The school called on residents and students’ parents to participate in a sit-in in front of the school on Tuesday morning to condemn the raid, the detention of the faculty members and the Israeli municipality’s decision to shut it down.
