Newspapers Review: Israeli attack at Gaza tunnel focus of dailies

RAMALLAH, October 31, 2017 (WAFA) – The Israeli strike against a tunnel in Gaza that left at least seven Palestinians dead and around 14 injured, some critical, was highlighted on the front page of the Tuesday issue of the three Palestinian Arabic dailies.

While al-Ayyam said the number of dead was seven, the other two dailies, al-Quds and al-Hayat al-Jadida put the number at eight.

The papers discussed in details the repercussions of the attack quoting political factions in Gaza accusing Israel of seeking to sabotage the reconciliation with this act.

Al-Hayat al-Jadida quoted Fatah saying that it is proceeding with the reconciliation in spite of the challenges.

The papers printed the headlines in dark and on dark background, and published pictures of the dead and people crying them.

Al-Ayyam quoted medical sources saying Israel used in the attack for the first time a strong poisonous gas.

Al-Quds said that Israeli measures in Jerusalem and the West Bank aim at breaking up the West Bank into cantons surrounded by settlements and segregated by roads.

Al-Ayyam said a report revealed that a Palestinian woman was raped inside an Israeli police station in Jerusalem.

The three papers also continued to report on the implications of Britain celebrating the Balfour declaration highlighting activities intended to protest the British government plans. They said a British group walked to Palestine to apologize to the Palestinian people for the Balfour declaration.
