A Palestinian doctor checking on patients at Dominica as part of the Palestinian relief efforts to the Caribbean island devastated by hurricanes.

RAMALLAH, September 30, 2017 (WAFA) - Foreign and Expatriates Minister Riyad Malki said on Saturday that the Palestinian relief and rescue mission to Dominica has completed its work and will leave the Caribbean island for the Venezuelan capital Caracas before returning home.

He said in a statement that the mission has successfully completed 10 days of work in Dominica and delivered a message of solidarity from the Palestinian people and leadership to the people and the leadership of Dominica and the Caribbean.

He said that the Caribbean countries hit by hurricanes will have many needs for reconstruction and that Palestinian businessmen can contribute toward the reconstruction efforts and to promote investment and economic cooperation and in these areas.

He expressed the readiness of the Palestinian International Cooperation Agency (PICA) and the Palestinian embassy to Venezuela and the Caribbean countries to provide the necessary information and assistance to investors and companies so that they can study the possibility of investment as well as arrange for their visit to the region meetings with government agencies and local authorities responsible to learn about their needs for reconstruction.

The prime minister of Dominica has called on companies and businesses from all countries to consider the possibility of implementing restoration, reconstruction and rehabilitation in various areas, expressing his government‘s willingness to cooperate and provide all necessary support to attract and facilitate foreign investment.

Dominica is not the only country in the Caribbean to be devastated by the recent hurricanes. Other countries as well have been devastated even though to a lesser extent.

Malki thanked the government of Venezuela for helping in the logistics that allowed the Palestinian team to carry out its mission in full, especially providing aircraft and helicopters to transfer the Palestinian team to the hard hit areas.

He also thanked the governments of Saint Vincent and Cuba and the Venezuelan crews that joined the work of the Palestinian team.

He expressed appreciation to the PICA team that included doctors from the Ministry of Health, civil defense and Red Crescent staff, as well as the ambassador to Venezuela and the Caribbean countries for their work.

Minister of Health Jawad Awwad said in a statement that the Palestinian doctors have treated hundreds of people in Dominica who needed urgent medical assistance. He said the Palestinian traveled between different locations to help wherever needed.
