RAMALLAH, April 22, 2017 (WAFA) – The hunger strike declared on Monday by Palestinian prisoners in Israeli jails remained on Saturday the main front page story in the three Palestinian Arabic dailies.
The dailies followed up on the Israeli measures to break the strikers, who numbered 1500, as well as the protests, with pictures, in the occupied Palestinian territories in solidarity with the prisoners.
The papers said Israel turned over the corpse of a Palestinian from Nablus who was shot dead by Israeli police in Jerusalem in early April on allegation of attacking and injuring Israelis. Ahmad Ghazal, 17, will be buried on Saturday in his hometown.
Al-Ayyam quoted Hamas leader in Gaza Ismael Haniyeh of saying that al-Qassam Brigades, the military wing of Hamas, has multiplied its military capability in the last three years.
Al-Quds quoted him saying that the freedom of the prisoners is near.
Al-Hayat al-Jadida said Hamas has arrested a female Fatah activist after a long police chase. It said the International Federation of Journalists has condemned Hamas arrest of a female journalist and demanded her immediate release.
It also said Palestinian and Israeli businessmen held a meeting via video conference sponsored by the US administration.
Al-Quds said Israeli officials have denounced the Thursday meeting held in Ramallah between Fatah Central Committee member Jibril Rjoub and Israeli Labor Party member Ariel Margelit.
It said President Mahmoud Abbas has sent his condolences to French President Francois Hollande for those killed in an attack in Paris.
