RAMALLAH, May 8, 2025 (WAFA) – A new documentary film titled "Who Killed Shireen?" and produced by Zeteo Media has revealed the identity of the Israeli soldier who killed the Palestinian-American journalist Shireen Abu Akleh.
The soldier responsible for the killing of the veteran reporter is Israeli soldier Alon Scagio, 22, who, according to the documentary, was also killed during an Israeli military operation in June 2024 in the city of Jenin, the same city where Shireen was killed.
The 40-minute-long investigative documentary also addresses the failure of US and Israeli governments' efforts to probe into the circumstances of the killing of the 51-year-old al-Jazeera correspondent.
On May 11, while covering an Israeli army assault in the northern occupied West Bank refugee camp of Jenin, Abu Akleh, and despite wearing a helmet and a clearly marked press vest, was murdered by a bullet to the head fired by an Israeli sniper. She was rushed to the hospital in critical condition and later pronounced dead.
Abu Akleh’s murder caused a shock among Palestinians everywhere in the world as she was considered a veteran, iconic journalist who worked for over 25 years, covering events taking place in the occupied Palestinian territories, mainly the Palestinian-Israeli conflict.
Abu Akleh, 51, a Palestinian-American journalist from Jerusalem working with Al Jazeera, was born in April 03, 1971 in East Jerusalem, and obtained American citizenship after living in the United States.
