Israel issues 46 administration detention orders against Palestinian prisoners

RAMALLAH, April 2, 2017 (WAFA) – Since March 21, Israeli authorities have issued 46 administration detention orders against Palestinian prisoners, including a Palestinian Legislative Council member, said the Palestinian Prisoners’ Society (PPS) in a statement on Sunday.

Mahmoud al-Halabi, PPS attorney, said that an administration detention order of four months was issued against Mohammad Ismail al-Tel, a Palestinian Legislative Council member, from the city of Hebron, in the occupied West Bank.

PPS added that 14 of the administration detention orders were issued against prisoners detained for the first time or re-detained after their release.  

According to a statistic by the Palestinian Prisoner Support and Human Rights Association, the total number of Palestinian political prisoners in Israeli prisons is 6,500, while 536 of them are administrative detainees, and 4 are Palestinian Legislative Council members.
