RAMALLAH, April 2, 2017 (WAFA) – The three Palestinian Arabic dailies focused in their Sunday issue on Israeli police‘s fatal shooting of a Palestinian teenager after he allegedly stabbed three Israelis in Jerusalem.

Al-Quds, al-Ayyam and al-Hayat al-Jadida reported that Ahmad Ghazzal, 17, was shot dead by Israeli police after he allegedly stabbed two Israelis and a policeman in the Old City of Jerusalem on Saturday.

The dailies said accordingly, Israeli police cordoned off the Old City and forced shop owners to close their shops before detaining 20 of them.

On a different subject, President Mahmoud Abbas’ meeting with the Norwegian  Foregin Minister Børge Brende in the presidential headquarters in the city of Ramallaha was reported in al-Ayyam and al-Hayat al-Jadida. They said that Abbas praised Norway’s effort to support the Palestinian economy and political process.

Abbas also emphasized the importance of the donor countries’ conference, which is scheduled to take place in Brussels in May. 

Al-Ayyam and al-Hayat al-Jadida said that Jordan and the European Union (EU) denounced and criticized the Israeli plans to build a new settlement in the West Bank, saying that settlements undermine hopes of a two-state solution.

Israeli settlers’ activities in the Palestinian territories were reported in the newspapers as well.

Al-Quds said that Palestinian-owned lands were razed by bulldozers belonging to Israeli settlers in Nablus and Bethlehem.

Al-Ayyam reported that Israeli settlers planted olive seedlings in the vicinity of a settlement outpost in the Jordan Valley.

Al-Hayat al-Jadida reported that President Mahmoud Abbas on Saturday ordered the provision of financial support, health coverage and passports to Syrian refugee families who have been living in the Gaza Strip since 2012 after leaving their war-torn country.

Abbas said the Palestinians remember very well the support the Syrian people gave to the Palestinian refugees after the 1948 Nakba and therefore they want to show the Syrian refugees similar support.

In a minor headline, Al-Quds said that Israeli-peace organizations held a march in Jerusalem in protest of the continuation of the Israeli occupation of the Palestinian territories.
