AMMAN, April 1, 2017 (WAFA) – Jordan denounced Saturday Israeli plans to build a new settlement in the occupied West Bank and seize almost 1000 square kilometers of Palestinian land.
Jordanian government spokesman Muhammed Moumani told Petra News Agency that this decision “constitutes a flagrant violation of the rights of the Palestinian people, especially the right to establish their independent state on their national soil within the borders of June 4, 1967, and a blow to efforts to revive the peace process and end the conflict as well as creates an environment that nurtures forces of extremism and terrorism.”
He said this decision violates United Nations Security Council resolutions, particularly resolution 2334 of December 23 that called on Israel to stop all settlement activities in the occupied Palestinian territories.
Moumani said the Israeli decision was contrary to the principles of the peace process and the responsibilities of the occupying power, as well as undermines the two-state solution and peace efforts in the region.
He called on the international community to condemn Israel‘s “irresponsible settlement expansionist policies” in order to implement the international resolutions and to stop all Israeli provocative unilateral steps and resume negotiations in order to reach a just and comprehensive peace that guarantees the establishment of a Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital.
