Abbas orders providing financial help, health coverage to Syrian refugees in Gaza

RAMALLAH, April 1, 2017 (WAFA) – President Mahmoud Abbas Saturday ordered providing financial support, health coverage and passports to Syrian refugee families who have been living in the Gaza Strip since 2012 after leaving their war-torn country.

Abbas’ decision came following an appeal by one of the Syrian refugees in Gaza during a call to the radio show “Good Morning Palestine.”

The refugee said there were eight Syrian families and three individuals who had moved to the Gaza Strip five years ago after they had left their country due to the ongoing conflict.

Abbas ordered immediate provision of financial assistance, a health insurance plan and to issue them Palestinian passport.

The president said the Palestinians remember very well the support the Syrian people gave to the Palestinian refugees after the 1948 Nakba and therefore they want to show the Syrian refugees similar support.
