RAMALLAH, March 29, 2017 (WAFA) – The three Palestinian Arabic dailies led their Wednesday front page coverage with reports from Jordan on the Arab Summit.
Al-Hayat al-Jadida printed a headline across the front page quoting President Mahmoud Abbas, who arrived in Jordan on Tuesday for the summit, saying that “the decisions of the Arab Summit on Palestine are a message to the entire world.”
Al-Quds said the summit will start today, adding in a kicker that the Palestinian issue tops the meeting agenda.
Al-Ayyam and the other dailies reported on the arrival of the Arab leaders in Jordan for the summit and said Abbas met at his Dead Sea residence, where the summit is going to convene, with the special US envoy Jason Greenblatt.
The main story in al-Ayyam touched on Israeli police arresting Aqsa Mosque guards who prevented an Israeli archeologist from stealing an ancient stone from inside the mosque compound as well as on Jewish fanatics carrying out provocative visits under Israeli police protection.
This story was also covered in the two other dailies with al-Quds giving prominence to the Israeli demolition of homes in East Jerusalem and Area C of the West Bank.
Al-Ayyam and al-Quds reported on their front page the findings of the committee investigating the violent Palestinian police crackdown on protesters outside the Ramallah courthouse three weeks ago. The recommendations called for disciplinary measures against the officers involved in beating protesters and journalists.
The papers reported on the strong support for Israel showed by the American United Nations representatives, as well as US Jewish leaders warning Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu against pinning too much hope in US President Donald Trump and efforts by Israeli right wing officials to crackdown on Israeli leftist organizations and the Palestinian school curriculum.
