RAMALLAH, March 28, 2017 (WAFA) – Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas’ meeting with European Union (EU) representatives in Brussels hit the front page headlines of the three Palestinian Arabic dailies on Tuesday.
Al-Quds, al-Ayyam and al-Hayat al-Jadida reported that during his visit to Brussels, Abbas met with EU figures and representatives, during which he said that Palestinians are committed to making a just and comprehensive peace. He also said that the repression and occupation policies are not going to bring security to the region.
On a different subject, the three dailies said Israeli police detained four Islamic Awqaf guards at Al-Aqsa Mosque compound in Jerusalem after the four stopped a Jewish archaeologist from stealing an ancient stone at the compound.
A minor headline said that Israeli ministers and Knesset members will be granted access to al-Aqsa Mosque after the Islamic holy month of Ramadan.
Al-Ayyam said that Israeli forces detained 17 Palestinians, including a minor and a woman, from several cities in the occupied West Bank on Monday.
The three dailies also reported news about the upcoming Arab Summit in Jordan. Al-Hayat al-Jadida and al-Quds highlighted that the Palestinian issue is back on the table of the Arab Summit meeting. Al-Ayyam said that the Arab Summit will reaffirm the Arab Peace Initiative as well as its rejection of moving the US embassy to Jerusalem.
A statement by US Vice President Mike Pence was published in al-Hayat al-Jadida and al-Ayyam. He said that US President Donald Trump is giving serious consideration to moving the US embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem.
Al-Quds and al-Hayat al-Jadida reported that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said that he is committed to working with Trump to advance peace efforts with the Palestinians.
