In a step seen as a violation of right to expression, Israeli soldiers destroy cartoonist’s atelier

RAMALLAH, March 27, 2017 (WAFA) – Israeli soldiers raided early Monday the home of Palestinian cartoonist Usama Nazzal in the Ramallah-area village of Kufr Nimeh, destroyed his atelier and seized his drawings, a step the Ministry of Culture considered as an assault on the right to expression.

The ministry condemned in a statement the raid describing it as “a desperate attempt to terrorize Palestinian creative artists, particularly cartoonists, whose work pains them (the Israeli occupation) because it tells the truth.”

It said the ransacking of Nazzal’s drawing studio is a “blatant violation of freedom of expression and creativity.”

It called on UNESCO and other international organizations to keep track of Israeli violations against Palestinian culture in the occupied territories.
