RAMALLAH, March 23, 2017 (WAFA) – The Israeli army killing of a Palestinian at the Gaza border was highlighted on the front page of the three Palestinian Arabic dailies on Thursday.
However, the main front page story in al-Quds focused on reports that the US administration told Israel to stop settlement activities outside the large settlement blocs and to draw a plan to evacuate the settlement outposts built without Israeli government approval.
It also said that Washington was waiting for details regarding “new” Palestinian ideas for a peaceful solution.
The papers also reported on the attack in London and said that President Mahmoud Abbas has sent his condolences for the dead to British Prime Minister Theresa May.
Al-Ayyam and al-Hayat al-Jadida said work on the renovation of Jesus tomb at the Holy Sepulcher Church in Jerusalem was completed and ceremonies were held marking end of the 10-month long work.
Al-Ayyam said dozens of people were hurt when Israeli soldiers dispersed a protest march for Palestinian families demanding that Israel should release the corpses of their sons.
It said clashes between students and Israeli soldiers near al-Quds University in Abu Dis, east of Jerusalem, left a number of people injured.
It also said lawmaker Ibrahim Dahbour was detained at an Israeli army checkpoint south of Jenin in the north of the West Bank.
The sealing shut of the Qunbar family home in occupied East Jerusalem was also reported on the front page of the dailies.
Israeli police poured concrete into the residence to seal it shut as a collective punishment for the family because their son, Fadi, had rammed his truck into Israeli soldiers in January killing four and wounding 15.
Al-Quds said $40 million were allocated for reconstruction of homes in the Gaza Strip destroyed by the 2014 Israeli military onslaught.
It also said the boycott movement, BDS, denounced Israeli crackdown on its Palestinian activists, and human rights groups denounced the withdrawal of a United Nations report describing Israel as an apartheid state.
Al-Hayat al-Jadida said the general prosecutor has started investigation into reports on social media raised by Canadian Palestinian Muna Khatib regarding corruption case.
