RAMALLAH, August 20, 2016 (WAFA) – The killing of two Palestinian outlaw gunmen by Palestinian security forces in the northern West Bank city of Nablus hit the front page headlines in Palestinian daily newspapers.

The dailies said Palestinian security forces shot dead two outlaw gunmen during an overnight campaign or operation into the Old City of Nablus.

Al-Ayyam and al-Hayat al-Jadida added Palestinian security forces arrested wanted people (fugitives) and found weapons, including improvised bombs.

The funeral processions of two members of Palestinian security forces killed during Nablus clashes also hit the front page headlines of the dailies.

The three dailies said Shibli Bani Shamseh and Mahmoud Tarayra were laid to their rest in the Nablus village of Beita and the Hebron town of Bani Naim.

Premier Rami Hamdallah was reported in al-Quds as stating the criminals would be captured and no impunity would be for them.

He was also reported in al-Hayat al-Jadida as vowing not to allow insecurity to become rampant.

President Mahmoud Abbas was reported in the three dailies as expressing his condolences to the families of Bani Shamseh and Tarayra.

He was reported in al-Hayat al-Jadida as vowing to hold the outlaw gunmen accountable for this crime and bringing them to justice.

Highlighting weekly Friday rallies against settlement and wall construction and in solidarity with Palestinian hunger strikers, the three dailies said a number of Palestinians were shot and injured and scores others suffocated when Israeli forces quelled the rallies.

Al-Hayat al-Jadida said settlers forced their way into an Islamic shrine in the Salfit town of Kifl Hares.

Highlighting the situation at Jerusalem’s flashpoint Al-Aqsa Mosque compound, al-Ayyam and al-Hayat al-Jadida said Jewish organizations demanded that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu cut back or the role of Awqaf (Islamic Endowment) Department.

Highlighting Israeli plans to advance expansion of Maale Adumim settlement bloc, al-Quds and al-Ayyam said Israel published tenders for the construction of an hotel and expansion of the industrial zone in the settlement.

Covering the health deterioration of Palestinian hunger strikers in Israeli prisons, al-Quds reported Chairman of the Detainees and Ex-Detainees Committee Issa Qaraqe as confirming that hunger strikers are on the verge of death.

Al-Quds reported member of Palestine Liberation Organization’s (PLO) Executive Committee Amad Majdalani denying an Israeli report that Egypt has submitted an initiative to hold an international peace conference in Cairo.

It said France awarded member of PLO Executive Committee Hanan Ashrawi with the “Chevalier de la L gion D’honneur” (Knight of the Legion of Honor) award.

Al-Ayyam reported Head of the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) David Carden as warning that 46 Palestinian communities in central West Bank are at the risk of forcible transfer.
