ROME, July 27, 2025 (WAFA) – The World Food Programme (WFP) confirmed that the agreed-upon ceasefire is the only way to ensure that humanitarian aid reaches all parts of the Gaza Strip, including essential food supplies, in a consistent, regular, and safe manner.
In a statement, the UN World Food Programme (WFP) welcomed "the news of Israel's willingness to implement humanitarian pauses and establish dedicated humanitarian corridors to facilitate the safe movement of UN convoys delivering emergency food supplies and other assistance to the people of Gaza."
The WFP stated that it has enough food in the area, or on its way, to feed the entire population of Gaza for approximately three months.
The statement continued, saying that its teams "delivered 350 trucks loaded with food aid to Gaza last week."
It explained that this occurred "under extremely difficult conditions, exposing civilians and aid workers to grave danger."
It emphasized that this number of trucks "represents just over half of the convoys for which WFP had requested permission."
"Since the partial reopening of border crossings on May 21, the World Food Programme has delivered 22,000 tons of food aid to Gaza," the statement said.
The programme added, "However, more than 62,000 tons of food aid are needed monthly to meet the needs" of Palestinians in Gaza.
It stressed that "food aid is the only way to secure food for most of Gaza's population. A third of the population has been without food for days."
It added, "Some 470,000 Palestinians are suffering from famine-like conditions, and 90,000 women and children require urgent nutritional treatment. People are dying due to a lack of humanitarian aid."
