Israeli Forces Detain 13 Palestinians, Injure Another in Hebron, Al-Bireh Raids

HEBRON, August 17, 2016 (WAFA) – Israeli forces detained 13 Palestinians, including a lawyer, during large-scale raids across Al-Bireh and Hebron districts, said security sources and a local activist.

Forces raided the southern West Bank city of Hebron, detaining three Palestinians after storming their family houses.

The detainees were identified as Ahmad Hassuna, Ahmad Masuda and ‘Ala Masuda.

Elsewhere in Hebron district, forces detained Abdul-Wahhab al-Khatib, who works as a lawyer, during an overnight raid into Halhul town, north of the city.

They also handcuffed and detained two Palestinians after storming and ransacking their family houses during a raid into Beit Ummar town, north of Hebron.

Spokesperson for local popular committee Muhammad Awad identified the detainees as Baha Awad, 21, and Noor Za‘aqiq, 19.

He added that during the raid, troops handed Omar Awad, 16, a notice ordering him to appear before intelligence in the Gush Etzion detention and interrogation center.

Elsewhere in Hebron district, forces set up a checkpoint at the entrance to al-Fawwar refugee camp, stopping Palestinian-registered vehicles, and inspecting passengers’ identity cards.

They raided the refugee camp, handcuffing and detaining Saher Ghatasha.

This came a day after Israeli troops shot dead 17-year-old Muhammad Abu Hashhash and injured at least 35 others during a large-scale search raid that sparked violent clashes into the camp.

Meanwhile, forces detained six Palestinians during a raid into al-Am‘ari and Qaddura refugee camps, south of al-Bireh in the central West Bank.

The detainees were identified as Hussein Abu Kwaik, Nael Abu Kwaik, Husam al-Wawi, Muhannad Samara, Yusef Abu Seif and Jehad al-Azza after storming their houses.

Clashes reportedly erupted between local Palestinian youths and troops, who fired stun grenades and .22 caliber bullets, known as Toto ammunition. At least a Palestinian was shot and injured in the clashes.
