RAMALLAH, August 3, 2016 (WAFA) – Palestinian Health Ministry’s warning of the sudden death of detainee Bilal Kayid, who has been hunger striking for 51 days, hit the front page headlines in Palestinian daily newspapers.
The dailies reported Health Ministry and Detainees and Ex-Detainees Commission as warning that Kayid’s health condition continued to deteriorate and he was on the verge of sudden death.
Al-Ayyam and al-Hayat al-Jadida added in this regard that more 32 Palestinian detainees in Israeli jails joined hunger strike in solidarity with Kayid.
Highlighting demolition of Palestinian structures, the dailies said Israeli bulldozers demolished a car dealer’s office and two shipping containers in the Jerusalem village of Sur Baher.
Al-Quds added in this regard that Israeli forces handed demolition notices for three Palestinian structures, east of al-Eizariya, east of Jerusalem.
Covering detention raids across the West Bank, al-Hayat al-Jadida said Israeli forces detained 24 Palestinians, including a girl, during West Bank overnight raids.
It added that two Palestinians were shot and injured by Israeli forces as settlers stormed Nablus Joseph’s Tomb.
Highlighting the findings of a report drafted by Palestinian human rights institutions concerned with detainees, al-Ayyam said a total of 574 Palestinians, including 111 children, were detained by Israeli forces during July.
Furthermore, al-Quds said in its main front page news article that Israel acknowledged it had conducted fresh excavations below the foundations of Al-Aqsa Mosque compound.
Highlighting the situation of Palestinian refugees in Syria, al-Quds said seven refugees, including a whole family, were killed there.
Al-Ayyam highlighted a video footage by Israeli human rights organization B’Tselem showing an Israeli soldier assaulting a Palestinian girl and took her bicycle away for daring to play on a street reserved for settlers in Hebron.
Finally, dailies said Egyptian-American Ahmed Zewail, a Nobel Prize recipient for chemistry and the first US science envoy to the Middle East has died on Tuesday at 70 years old.
