Newspaper Review: Israel’s Demolition of Multiple Structures in West Bank Focus of Dailies

RAMALLAH, August 12, 2015 (WAFA) – The three Palestinian Arabic dailies focused in their Wednesday issue on Israel’s demolition of a number of commercial and residential structures in Jerusalem, the Jordan Valley, and Jenin.

They reported that the Israeli authorities Tuesday demolished a building in Atarot Industrial Zone, to the north of Jerusalem, residential structures near Hamra checkpoint, in northern Jordan Valley, and commercial facilities in the village of al-Jalameh, north of Jenin.

Al-Quds and al-Hayat al-Jadida highlighted remarks by Prime Minister Rami Hamdallah, where he said that UNRWA’s financial crisis was on its way towards a solution.

Al-Ayyam said Yoav Mordechai, Coordinator of the Israeli Government Activities in the West Bank, threatened to demolish residential structures built by the European Union in Area C of the West Bank, under complete Israeli control.

Al-Hayat al-Jadida said 30 hunger striking Palestinian prisoners in the Israeli Nafha prison ended their hunger strike, after the prison authorities agreed to allow them back to Rimon prison. The prison authorities recently considered the transfer of many prisoners from one prison to another, a measure that was considered provocative by the prisoners.

Al-Quds said President Mahmoud Abbas asked advisors to examine referring Israel’s recently approved force-feeding bill to the ICC.

Al-Quds said the Jewish organization Ateret Cohanim submitted to the Israeli Planning and Construciton Committed a blue print to build a new settlement building in the Jerusalem neighborhood of Silwan.

Al-Quds and al-Ayyam said Israeli police Tuesday assaulted a crowd of Palestinian children at the entrance of al-Aqsa Mosque compound in Jerusalem, and prevented them from entering the holy site.

Al-Ayyam said the Israeli authorities thwarted 17 attacks on Israeli targets in the West Bank since the beginning of 2015.

Al-Ayyam said the cabinet decided to take austerity measures to help address the current financial deficit faced by the Palestinian Authority.
