HEBRON, July 21, 2015 (WAFA) –
At least nine Palestinians were on Tuesday detained by Israeli authorities in
the West Bank and East Jerusalem, most of them during predawn raids, according
to local and security sources.
In Hebron district, Israeli
army stormed the town of Bani Na’im, east of the city, and arrested three Palestinians,
two of whom were identified as Muataz Khdour, 17, and Othman Manasrah, 18.
Army also broke into Hebron
city and arrested 13-year-old Anan Jabari in the Old City neighborhood. He was
taken to an unknown destination.
Forces also stormed the town of
Shuyukh, north of Hebron, and raided the house of Mousa Halayka, a Palestinian
prisoner in Israeli jails, and interrogated his wife, Hanaa, for about two
hours. Israeli soldiers searched several other homes in the town, but there
were no reports of arrests.
Meanwhile, an Israeli army
force stormed the village of Asira e-Shamaliya, north of Nablus, and searched a
number of homes before arresting a local, identified as Qutaiba Hamadneh.
The army also stormed the
village of Kafr Qalil, south of Nablus, and arrested three local residents,
identified as Samer Mansour, Ghanem Amer and Fayez Kani.
In Jerusalem, Israeli police
arrested a Palestinian from Bab Hatta neighborhood in the Old City. He was
transferred to the Moroccan detention compound in Jerusalem.
Meanwhile on Tuesday, the
Palestinian Prisoners’ Club (PPC) said Israeli police arrested the mother of a
Palestinian prisoner in Israeli prisons.
It said Ameena Amoudi from
Jenin was arrested while she was on a regular visit to her son, Mohammad
Amoudi, who is currently incarcerated in the Israeli prison Jalbou.
According to the Palestinian Central
Bureau of Statistics (PCBS), between 1967 and April 2014, some 805 thousand
Palestinians were arrested by the Israeli occupation authorities in the OPT.
This includes more than 50 thousand cases of administrative detention, without
a charge or trial.
On Monday, a human rights group
said Israeli forces have performed “abusive arrests” of Palestinian children,
chocking, beating and threatening kids as young as 11.
“Israeli security forces have
used unnecessary force to arrest or detain Palestinian children as young as
11,” a report published by the Human Rights Watch (HRW) said Monday.
According to the group, Israeli
security forces “have choked children, thrown stun grenades at them, beaten
them in custody, threatened and interrogated them without the presence of
parents or lawyers, and failed to let their parents know their whereabouts.”
HRW said it interviewed several
Palestinian boys and a girl aged from 11 to 15 who were arrested by Israeli
security forces in the period from March to December 2014. The children told
HRW that “Israeli authorities did not inform parents of their child’s arrest
and interrogated the children without permitting them to speak to a parent or
lawyer prior to the interrogation.”
