RAMALLAH,
February 2, 2015 (WAFA) – Israeli Prison Police last night raided cells of Palestinian
prisoners incarcerated in the Eshel prison in Israel, assaulting them and
beating them up, according to the Palestinian Authority’s Committee on
Prisoners’ Affairs.
Rami
Alami, an attorney with the Committee, said a large police contingent raided
Division 11 in Eshel prison at 3:30AM. The prison guards assaulted the
prisoners, and were then handcuffed and taken to individual cells.
A
number of sick prisoners were among those who were assaulted in Eshel prisoner,
reported Alami.
He
said that the Israeli prison guards recently assaulted three prisoners from
Jerusalem while they were led to a hearing before the central court of
Jerusalem. According to Alami, the guards physically assaulted the prisoners in
a violent manner, bruising them throughout their bodies.
To
be noted, reports on Israeli Prison Authority’s abuse of Palestinian prisoners
almost arrive late by days or even months, due to time constraints on attorney
visitation.
More
than 5,000 Palestinian prisoners are still detained in Israeli prisons, dozens of
whom are serving a life sentence.
The
number of sick prisoners detained in Israeli jails has reached 1500, 80
prisoners of whom are suffering serious health problems and do not receive the
necessary treatment; they suffer from malignant diseases, paralysis, and
disabilities, in addition to cases of mental illness and neurological disorder.
