Israeli forces assault residents trying to remove belongings from Tulkarm refugee camp

TULKARM, July 6, 2025 (WAFA) – Israeli occupation forces Sunday assaulted residents who had flocked to Tulkarm camp in an attempt to remove their belongings from their homes threatened with demolition.

This comes as part of the latest Israeli plan to demolish 104 buildings inside the camp under the pretext of military purposes.

WAFA correspondent reported that occupation soldiers deliberately obstructed residents' entry to their homes by checking their IDs, detaining a number of them, and subjecting others to field investigations and searches, amid an atmosphere of tension and provocation.

During the hours allotted, families were seen racing against time to evacuate their homes, accompanied by a number of Palestinian Red Crescent Society volunteers. Meanwhile, occupation forces surrounded the area and deployed heavily at the camp entrances and among the alleys and homes, which they had transformed into military barracks. They pursued residents, firing live ammunition and sound bombs to intimidate them.

The occupation army announced last night that it would allow what it described as a "second batch" of families who had been unable to evacuate their homes earlier to enter the camp to remove their belongings this afternoon, from 2:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.

The army explained that the evacuation operation would include only 54 homes included in the demolition plan. Only three entrances and exits were designated for residents to pass through: the entrance to the Muqata'a neighborhood, the entrance to the Hanoun Square, and the entrance adjacent to the Zenobia Girls' School, which leads to UNRWA schools.

This measure is part of a policy of restricting movement among camp residents, who have faced forced evacuation orders since the start of the Israeli aggression on the city and camp, now in its 161st consecutive day, amid a state of shock and grief. They are threatened with losing their homes and property, while the occupation forces impose a tight siege on the camp and its surrounding areas, including extensive demolitions of dozens of residential buildings over the past few days.

Meanwhile, the occupation forces continued to impose a tight siege on Nour Shams camp and its surroundings for the 148th consecutive day, with infantry units and military vehicles deployed in the alleys and entrances. This followed the recent demolition of homes and residential buildings, which resulted in wide streets separating neighborhoods.

In parallel, the city saw a deployment of occupation vehicles today, patrolling its main streets, specifically Nablus Street, the central market, Martyr Thabet Thabet Square, and Jamal Abdel Nasser Square. They obstructed the movement of citizens and vehicles, provocatively honking their horns, driving against traffic, and ramming several vehicles parked on the sidewalks, endangering the lives of civilians.

The occupation forces also stormed the suburbs of Shuweika, Artah, and Dhenaba, deploying throughout their streets and neighborhoods, setting up flying checkpoints, and detaining and detaining young men after searching them and checking their IDs.

The occupation forces continue to transform Nablus Street into a military barracks by continuing to seize a number of residential buildings there, along with parts of the northern neighborhood of the city, specifically those facing Tulkarm refugee camp, and parts of the eastern neighborhood near the camp. This has been achieved after forcibly evacuating residents, some of whom have been under occupation control for more than four months. This is accompanied by the deployment of heavy machinery and bulldozers in the surrounding area.

This street, which serves as a link between Tulkarm and Nur Shams refugee camps, has suffered significant damage due to the earth mounds erected by the occupation forces several months ago. This is coupled with a heavy presence of occupation forces, who erect flying and surprise checkpoints, obstructing vehicle movement and increasing the suffering of civilians.

The ongoing aggression has so far resulted in the deaths of 14 citizens, including a child and two women, one of whom is eight months pregnant. It has also resulted in dozens of injuries and arrests, as well as widespread destruction of infrastructure, homes, shops, and vehicles.

The escalation has led to the forced displacement of more than 5,000 families from the two camps, representing more than 25,000 citizens, and the complete destruction of more than 600 homes, while 2,573 homes have been partially damaged. Meanwhile, the entrances to the two camps remain closed with barriers, transforming them into areas almost devoid of life.
