RAMALLAH,
December 20, 2014 – (WAFA) – Dozens of Palestinians were injured Friday as
Israeli forces crushed nonviolent marches held across West Bank against the
Israeli occupation, the apartheid wall and ongoing settlement construction, ,
most notably that held in the Ramallah village of Turmusayya, a news item that
hit front page headlines in Palestinian dailies.
Al-Quds
and al-Ayyam reported that dozens of Palestinians suffocated and were injured
with live fire as Israeli occupation forces crushed the weekly peaceful marches
across the West Bank.
Al-Quds
and al-Hayat al-Jadida reported that Palestinian demonstrators set up a
memorial and planted a Roman-era olive tree in memory of PA minister
Ziad Abu Ein. Al-Hayat al-Jadida added that 10 Palestinian and
international activists were injured and four others were arrested in the
village.
The
dailies also reported that violent clashes erupted in the East Jerusalem area
of Wadi al-Joz, while al-Hayat al-Jadida reported that a Palestinian was shot
by Israeli forces in the Nablus village of Kufr Qaddum.
Regarding
the situation in Gaza, the three dailies reported that six Palestinians were
shot and injured by Israeli forces to the east of Jabalia.
Al-Quds
also reported that tensions are high on the eastern frontiers of Gaza as a
rocket hits southern Israel.
Al-Quds
reported that Hamas senior leader Mahmoud al-Zahhar alluded to an imminent new
prisoners swap deal between Hamas and Israel.
Regarding
the Palestinian statehood bid, al-Quds reported that Washington intends to
reject the draft resolution calling at the United Nations Security Council
(UNSC) for ending the Israeli occupation of Palestinian territory.
It
also reported that the Palestinian leadership has introduced eight amendments
to the draft resolution.
Al-Hayat
al-Jadida and al-Ayyam reported in this regard that President Mahmoud Abbas has
discussed the Palestinian draft resolution with Jordanian Minister of Foreign
Affairs Nasser Judeh in Amman.
They
also reported that Palestinian Chief Negotiator Saeb Erekat starts today an
action involving Egypt and Russia to mobilize support for the UNSC draft resolution.
Al-Hayat
al-Jadida reported that Russia has affirmed its willingness to support the
Palestinian draft resolution at the UNSC.
Al-Quds
also reported in this regard that Tremblay en France, a French city, has
celebrated the French Parliament’s recognition of Palestine.
It
also reported that an Israeli court extended the detention of seven
Palestinians for incitement via Facebook and released others on conditions.
It
also reported that 60 thousands worshippers performed the Friday noon prayers
in the Al-Aqsa Mosque Compound.
Al-Ayyam
reported that Palestinian Ambassador to Côte
d'Ivoire has submitted his credentials.
Al-Quds and
al-Ayyam reported that the EU mission in East Jerusalem and Ramallah has voiced
its concerns over the Israeli policy of expelling Palestinians from East
Jerusalem.
Al-Quds reported
that FIFA President Joseph Blatter has condemned storming the Palestinian
Football Federation headquarters by Israeli forces during the last month.
