RAMALLAH, November 5, 2026 (WAFA) – The Palestinian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates has welcomed a joint statement issued following a consultative meeting on developments in the Palestinian cause, held at the African Union Commission headquarters in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, praising its positions in support of the inalienable rights of the Palestinian people.
The meeting brought together high-level delegations from the African Union Commission, the General Secretariat of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), and the League of Arab States, as part of a joint coordination mechanism to support the Palestinian cause.
In a statement issued on Thursday, the ministry stressed the importance of the joint statement's position on the catastrophic humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip and the need to implement the second phase of US President Donald Trump's peace plan. It said this should ensure an end to the blockade and Israeli occupation of the Strip, the opening of all crossings to allow the safe and unhindered delivery of humanitarian aid, and the launch of reconstruction efforts.
The ministry also welcomed the statement's rejection of all plans for the forced displacement of Palestinians, whether in Gaza or the occupied West Bank, and its emphasis on preserving the unity and territorial integrity of Palestinian land.
It further praised the call on countries that have relocated or announced plans to relocate their diplomatic missions to occupied Jerusalem to reverse these illegal decisions, which violate relevant UN Security Council resolutions.
The statement also urged all countries to refrain from taking positions or measures that could entrench the Israeli occupation, recognize illegal annexation measures, or endorse Israel's alleged sovereignty over the holy city. The ministry stressed that all states must uphold their obligations under international law.
The ministry also welcomed the document's emphasis on ending Israel's colonial occupation and implementing the two-state solution in accordance with international law, relevant UN resolutions, the Arab Peace Initiative, and the 2025 New York Declaration.
It said these efforts should lead to the establishment of an independent and sovereign Palestinian state along the June 4, 1967 borders, with Jerusalem as its capital, while guaranteeing the Palestinian people's rights to self-determination, independence, return, and compensation for Palestinian refugees.
The ministry further praised the statement's rejection of Israeli settlements and its calls for dismantling settlements, holding settlers accountable for acts of terrorism and violence against Palestinians, their land, property and holy sites, disarming them, and adopting the necessary legal and economic measures against companies involved in illegal settlement activities.
