JEDDAH, July 22, 2026 (WAFA) – The General Secretariat of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) on Wednesday expressed its strong condemnation of the decision by the Republic of Nauru to open an embassy with the Israeli occupying authorities in the occupied city of Jerusalem.
The OIC General Secretariat considered that this step constitutes a violation of international law and relevant United Nations resolutions, and undermines international efforts aimed at achieving peace based on the two-state solution.
It reaffirmed its rejection of this unlawful decision, considering it a flagrant violation of United Nations Security Council resolutions, in particular Resolutions 476 (1980) and 478 (1980), which affirm the nullity of all Israeli measures aimed at altering the character, legal status and demographic composition of the city of Jerusalem, and call upon States to refrain from establishing diplomatic missions in the city and to withdraw any existing missions from it.
It called on the Government of the Republic of Nauru to reverse this decision, to abide by its responsibilities under the Charter of the United Nations and relevant UN resolutions, and to support international efforts aimed at ending the occupation and achieving a just and comprehensive peace in accordance with international legitimacy resolutions and the Arab Peace Initiative.
