RAMALLAH, July 16, 2026 (WAFA) – Prime Minister Mohammad Mustafa briefed Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev on Thursday on the latest political developments and the situation on the ground in Palestine, including the ongoing Israeli measures in the West Bank, including Jerusalem, escalating colonist attacks, land confiscation for settlement expansion, and the continued withholding of Palestinian tax revenues.
During their meeting at the Zagulba Palace in Baku, the Azerbaijani capital, Mustafa also discussed the deteriorating humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip resulting from the continued closure of crossings and the Israeli obstruction of the entry of relief and recovery supplies, in addition to the severe shortages of medicine and food.
He also conveyed President Mahmoud Abbas's greetings and appreciation to President Aliyev, commending Azerbaijan's steadfast support for the two-state solution based on international law.
He also expressed gratitude for the humanitarian and development assistance provided to Palestine, particularly to UNRWA, as well as for the cultural and educational exchanges between the two countries.
The two leaders also discussed ways to strengthen bilateral cooperation across various sectors.
For his part, President Aliyev conveyed his greetings and appreciation to President Mahmoud Abbas, reiterating his country's firm commitment to the two-state solution based on international law.
It is worth noting that this official visit comes at the invitation of the Republic of Azerbaijan and will include a meeting with the Prime Minister of Azerbaijan and the Speaker of the Palestinian National Council, as well as a visit to the Victory Monument and the mausoleum of national leader Heydar Aliyev, and several other meetings.
The meeting was attended by Minister of Finance and Planning, Istifan Salameh, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for Political Affairs, Ambassador Omar Awadallah, and the Palestinian Ambassador to Azerbaijan, Ahmed Mitani.
